In Starcraft 2 harassment is the name of the game. If you can keep yourself one step ahead of your opponent by using harassment techniques, chances are you'll pull out a win in the end. This is especially true when playing as Terran. In this guide I will show you the basics of effective Terran harassment.
Vikings are possibly my favorite Terran unit. A lot of newer players will easily dismiss them as "useless" since they don't attack ground units unless in assault mode. But once you start seeing their usefulness you'll soon change your mind.
One of the best maps for viking harassment is kulas ravine. A 1v1 map that has of lot of high ground overlooking mineral expansion points. This can be especially effective against Zerg since they have very little anti-air in the early game. If the Zerg player expands early get a starport and build a few vikings. You can drop them on the high ground right overlooking the expansion. This gives them a perfect opportunity to pick off drones like flies and the best part is that your opponent will not be able to see them since they are up high. Then once your opponent has brought his forces up you can lift off your Vikings and drop them behind his mineral line in his main base. This tactic is very simple but can become a nightmare for your opponent.
Tactics like this are also useful when playing against a Protoss player as well. The vikings however should not be used as a main attack unit as they do poorly in most ground battles. You should use the vikings to harass and distract while you build up enough marines and marauders to finish them off. This is a simple yet effective strategy for Terran harassments that will work surprisingly well.
Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. I would highly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to get to the top of the Diamond Ladders, I think this guide might be the only one of its kind.
Anyways, good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on BattleNet!
