As a Zerg player we need to realize that our strength is in out gathering and out producing our opponents. We have a hard time keeping up with the higher tech units of Terran and Protoss. So to counter this we need expand faster and more often then our enemy while at the same time keeping them from expanding. This guide will teach you the basics of the Zerg early expansion strategy.
There is a trade off with the early expansion because instead of upgrading to a lair we must use those minerals to build the new hatchery. This will leave us very open to an air attack since we will basically have nothing to attack air. So we need to keep the enemy busy so he will not be able to tech and will also be focused on playing defense and not attack our base. Use zerglings to harass the enemy and keep them busy while at the same time building up your second base.
As soon as you have upgraded to a lair you should have 2 bases up and running while our opponent will only have one. At this point you need to get hydralisks so you have some anti air. Use your army to keep him from expanding and just wait him out. When he starts to run out of minerals he will have no choice but to attack you. At that point it should be no trouble winning the battle, which will effectively end the game.
Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. I would highly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to get to the top of the Diamond Ladders, I think this guide might be the only one of its kind.
Anyways, good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on BattleNet!
