Starcraft 2 - Zerg End Game - Ultralisks Or Brood Lords?

So far, Zerg games have been (let's ignore Zerg vs Zerg for this guide) relatively straight forward. Defend from any harassment the Terran or Protoss might throw at you (vikings, phoenix, reapers, immortal pushes), expand and macro up your hydralisk/roach army and try to out expand your opponent. Throw in banelings and sneaky nydus networks plus speedlings and you've got your opponent throwing all their resources into their ground army, trying to wipe out your main army as well as your expansions.

But so far, that hydra/roach combo has been working really well for the Zerg. I'm going to go ahead into the future, a time when Starcraft 2 is so evolved that hydra/roach won't be sufficient enough to hold out against the Protoss colossus and Terran tanks. A time when Zerg neeed to use Tier 3 units! So which direction should we go? The greatest meat shields ever, the ultralisks? Or the ranged destroyers, the brood lords?

Both units take tons of time and resources to get to and both are very expensive. But we have to do something to deal that final death blow to our opponent. Lets look at Terran first, if they are using a lot of tanks and thors then the choice is simple, you go for brood lords. If the Terran player is heavy on marines and marauders or lots of vikings then you should go ultralisks.

When facing Protoss you should watch for immortals and/or air power such as phoenix or void rays in which case you should go brood lords. Immortals are designed for taking down big ground units such as ultralisks and the void rays will pick apart your ultralisks from the safety of air. If you see the Protoss player using a lot of zealots and colosuss then the ultralisks are the perfect unit because they do splash damage so the zealots will drop fast and colossus will not be able to do enough damage to stop your ultras.

Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. I would highly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to get to the top of the Diamond Ladders, I think this guide might be the only one of its kind.

Anyways, good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on BattleNet!
