Starcraft 2 - Why You Should Rush As Zerg

Rushing is a great tactic if used right but it can also be a really bad decision if you do it wrong. If you do an effective rush it will cripple your opponent's economy or maybe even win the game if you are lucky. However, your goal should be to cripple and then destroy later in the game when you have a stronger army then your opponent.

The first thing I would say is stay away from early rushes. We have all seen the Zerg player who gets 8 zerglings really fast and then throws them at the enemy thinking he will somehow take out all the workers with them, of course a good player will never lose to that rush and will kill the zerglings without much trouble or losses. In the meantime the Zerg player has crippled himself by making the spawning pool so early and not building up his drones.

I do recommend doing a late rush with Zerg though as it can be very effective. Start off by building up your drones and make one extractor. As soon as you get 100 gas start the speed upgrade in the spawning pool. After you get up to about 25 drones then just pump zerglings and if you want you can also build a baneling nest and make a few of those as well. When the speed upgrade finishes you should have 20 or so zerglings. Take the zerglings and run into your opponents base straight to the workers, ignore the army and take out as many workers as you can. This will halt the production of your opponent and at the same time he is focusing on building back up his workers you can build up your roach/hydra army and finish him off. In this way you still have a rush but also you don't hurt your own economy to do it.

Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. I would highly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to get to the top of the Diamond Ladders, I think this guide might be the only one of its kind.

Anyways, good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on BattleNet!
