As a Zerg player we have the ability and need to harass our opponent. We must use this every chance we get. The main advantage with Zerg is our quick expansions; our weakness is that we do not tech as well as Terran or Protoss. So to win in the top levels against good diamond players we must out produce them. We can't compete with units like the colossus or thor unless we simply overwhelm them with hydralisks or roaches. We could use investors but they can be taken down pretty easily so they need a lot of backup. Harassment is a major way for us to keep our enemy from expanding.
The best way to harass is by using speed upgraded zerglings and maybe a few banelings as well. I generally build up an army of zerglings while I wait for the speed upgrade and then send them to harass while I expand. This way I keep them on the defense while at the same time expanding.
The best thing to do is take your zerglings and run right by their army to the workers. Kill as many workers as you can and then try to run back out without losing too many zerglings, you should focus on crippling their economy and not worry about hurting his army. You can do this fairly easily because the speed upgrade makes your zerglings much faster then anything they have.
While you are doing this harassment you should build up your second base and move into making hydralisks. Continue using the zerglings to keep your opponent on the defense until you have a good-sized hydralisk army. You should be able to win the game with the hydralisk attack but in case you can't then you should focus on keeping your opponent from expanding and then you can just starve him out.
Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. I would highly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to get to the top of the Diamond Ladders, I think this guide might be the only one of its kind.
Anyways, good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on BattleNet!
