Starcraft 2 - Zerg Build Orders
Zerg has a number of different options at the start of a game depending on what you want to do. First though I want to talk for a second about rushing because it is a favorite of the Zerg player for good reason. A good Zerg player can do a very effective late rush but I would recommend staying away from the very early rushes that we are seeing all over battlenet right now. A diamond level player will not fall to an early rush and in fact, in most cases it will leave you in a worse position after the failed rush then your opponent.
I would recommend a late rush though and the build order for that goes like this. When you hit 10 drones build an overlord and then pump out 3 more drones when the overlord finishes. Build a spawning pool after the 3 drones and then make 1 extractor and throw 3 drones on it. Continue to build drones until the pool finishes then make a queen. At this point you should have around 15 drones so I would build 3 or 4 more drones. As soon as you get 100 gas start the speed upgrade in the spawning pool. Now all you need to do is make zerglings and overlords when you need to. Make sure you always have "spawn larva" on the hatchery. When the speed upgrade finishes take all your zerglings and head for your opponent's expansion, take out the workers and then head straight into his main base and also take out as many workers as you can. I would ignore their army and simply run right by them to the workers. By doing this you cripple his economy and your second attack will end the game because he will focus on getting his workers back while you can focus on building up your army to end the game. This is a much more effective strategy then the early rush with only 6 or 8 zerglings.
You may not be a huge fan of rushing like that, in which case you would build a mixture or drones and zerglings/roaches until you hit 30 drones instead of only building zerglings after the first 18 or so drones. Then focus on hydralisks or what ever is needed to counter your opponent. But always remember to expand pretty early because out expanding our opponent is the only way we stay ahead of Terran and Protoss in the end game.
Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. I would highly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to get to the top of the Diamond Ladders, I think this guide might be the only one of its kind.
Anyways, good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on BattleNet!

Starcraft 2 - Zerg Vs Protoss Basic Strategy
When playing against a Protoss player the first thing you need to look out for is a proxy. Make sure to scout around your base and just outside of your base. After you have established that the Protoss player is not going to proxy you will need to focus and countering the strategy your opponent decides to go with.
The most common Protoss strategy is to use zealots/sentries/stalkers. If you see this coming you will need to mainly focus on getting roaches and hydralisks. I would not recommend using very many zerglings because the sentries can use force fields to keep them away from melee range while they and the stalkers take them out with ranged attacks. I would also stay away from mutalisks because they take a 100 gas to make and you will simply not be able to keep up with the stalkers that do good damage to air and only take 50 gas to make.
Use your roach/hyrdalisk army to keep the Protoss player from expanding while you expand. After this it's a simple matter of producing units faster then the Protoss player can. A smart Protoss player will switch to colossus because they are very good against roaches and hydralisks. If you see this coming then you should pump out a few corruptors as they do very good damage to air units and colossus can be attacked by air and ground.
Instead of going zealots/sentries/stalkers he may go for dark templars and try to surprise attack you before you have any overseers, so be sure to grab an overseer as soon as you can. And of course one of the favorite early attacks for Protoss is to cannon in and go for quick void rays, this is being used a lot right now because Zerg is weak against air in the early game. So make sure you scout them and build spore crawlers around your drones if you see this coming.

Starcraft 2 - Basic Build Order For Zerg
This is the standard build order for Zerg players; don't use this build order if you intend to rush. This build will allow for a very early expansion and relies on speedlings and banelings for most of the early game.
First, get 10 drones and then build on overlord. When the overlord finishes pump 3 more drones and wait until you get 200 minerals so you can build the spawning pool. After you start the spawning pool make one extractor and put 3 drones on it, then just make drones until the spawning pool finishes. After this you should build a queen and alternate making zerglings and drones, also start the speed upgrade in the spawning pool as soon as you have 100 gas and make a baneling nest after that so you can build a few banelings for defense.
When you get up to around 25 or so drones you should make your expansion and defend it with your zerglings and a few banelings. Make sure you scout so you can see an attack coming and be ready for it. After you get the expansion up and running move into making roaches and hydralisks. After this, winning is a simple matter of keeping your opponent from expanding and then just out producing him. Stay away from building mutalisks as they take way to much gas and are not strong enough to make it worth while. Also keep checking all the possible expansion spots and attack any new base he tries to build.
The key to winning as a Zerg player is controlling the mineral gathering of your opponent, while you expand. We can't compete with a Terran or Protoss player if we let them expand and tech. Plus air defense is our weakness so make sure you scout and if you see him going air then make corruptors as fast as possible.

I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. Starcraft 2 - Zerg End Game - Ultralisks Or Brood Lords?
So far, Zerg games have been (let's ignore Zerg vs Zerg for this guide) relatively straight forward. Defend from any harassment the Terran or Protoss might throw at you (vikings, phoenix, reapers, immortal pushes), expand and macro up your hydralisk/roach army and try to out expand your opponent. Throw in banelings and sneaky nydus networks plus speedlings and you've got your opponent throwing all their resources into their ground army, trying to wipe out your main army as well as your expansions.
But so far, that hydra/roach combo has been working really well for the Zerg. I'm going to go ahead into the future, a time when Starcraft 2 is so evolved that hydra/roach won't be sufficient enough to hold out against the Protoss colossus and Terran tanks. A time when Zerg neeed to use Tier 3 units! So which direction should we go? The greatest meat shields ever, the ultralisks? Or the ranged destroyers, the brood lords?
Both units take tons of time and resources to get to and both are very expensive. But we have to do something to deal that final death blow to our opponent. Lets look at Terran first, if they are using a lot of tanks and thors then the choice is simple, you go for brood lords. If the Terran player is heavy on marines and marauders or lots of vikings then you should go ultralisks.
When facing Protoss you should watch for immortals and/or air power such as phoenix or void rays in which case you should go brood lords. Immortals are designed for taking down big ground units such as ultralisks and the void rays will pick apart your ultralisks from the safety of air. If you see the Protoss player using a lot of zealots and colosuss then the ultralisks are the perfect unit because they do splash damage so the zealots will drop fast and colossus will not be able to do enough damage to stop your ultras.

Starcraft 2 - Why You Should Rush As Zerg
Rushing is a great tactic if used right but it can also be a really bad decision if you do it wrong. If you do an effective rush it will cripple your opponent's economy or maybe even win the game if you are lucky. However, your goal should be to cripple and then destroy later in the game when you have a stronger army then your opponent.
The first thing I would say is stay away from early rushes. We have all seen the Zerg player who gets 8 zerglings really fast and then throws them at the enemy thinking he will somehow take out all the workers with them, of course a good player will never lose to that rush and will kill the zerglings without much trouble or losses. In the meantime the Zerg player has crippled himself by making the spawning pool so early and not building up his drones.
I do recommend doing a late rush with Zerg though as it can be very effective. Start off by building up your drones and make one extractor. As soon as you get 100 gas start the speed upgrade in the spawning pool. After you get up to about 25 drones then just pump zerglings and if you want you can also build a baneling nest and make a few of those as well. When the speed upgrade finishes you should have 20 or so zerglings. Take the zerglings and run into your opponents base straight to the workers, ignore the army and take out as many workers as you can. This will halt the production of your opponent and at the same time he is focusing on building back up his workers you can build up your roach/hydra army and finish him off. In this way you still have a rush but also you don't hurt your own economy to do it.

I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. Starcraft 2 - Zerg Versus Terran Basic Strategy
When playing against a Terran player you must always keep an eye out for reaper rushes early on, to counter this make sure you keep a few zerglings close to your drones. After this you must focus on a few different Terran strategies, which we will cover below.
The most common Terran strategy is to use the marine/marauder with either dropships or tanks or in some cases both. The best way for Zerg to counter this is to stay away from roaches and go zerglings with the speed upgrade (speedlings) and hydralisks. Roaches do very poorly against marauders, because marauders do extra damage against armored units and roaches are armored. The key here is to expand early and keep Terran from expanding with your speedlings. After you have established your second base just keep building up your army and starve out the Terran player. Be sure to keep an eye on all of the extra possible base locations and if Terran tries to expand take it out quickly. After the Terran's main base runs out of minerals he will have no choice but to attack you in which case you should have no trouble winning.
A few other things you need to watch for when playing Terran are the dropship attacks and the cloaked banshee attacks on your main base. To defend against this just make sure you get an overseer and keep him around you base and keep scouts around the map so you will see the dropships coming and be ready for them. But ultimately the key to beating Terran is to starve them; if you let a good Terran player expand they are very hard to kill as they have a very good combination of units to handle anything that Zerg players can throw at them. We have a harder time beating Terran then we do beating a Protoss player.

Starcraft 2 - Zerg Versus Zerg Basic Strategy
So you are playing another Zerg? Well this will be a true test of your skills. You have a few choices in the this game and you also need to watch out for a few different kinds of attacks. The first attack you should watch out for is the speedling/baneling attack. You need to scout often to make sure our opponent isn't building banelings. If you are not ready for this attack it can cripple your drones and effectively end the game very quickly. I would recommend also getting a few banelings and speedlings to counter this but I would not recommend getting a ton of banelings, just enough to take out his. Another thing you need to keep on eye on is a fast tech to mutalisks. This is easy to counter if you see it coming (the key in this type of game is to always know what your opponent is building). To counter mutalisks get hydralisks and you shouldn't have any trouble taking him out.
Of course the main attack choice of a Zerg player is to go roaches/hydralisks so most of the games you play vs Zerg will go this way. The best way to win against this is to also go roaches/hydralisks but also grab a few banelings and if you use them correctly it will turn the game in your favor. In a Zerg vs Zerg game I would always grab a few banelings as they are the one unit that can get you the edge in a large battle.
Going back to the mutalisks for a second I would strong recommend staying away from them yourself. The reason is simple, they take 100 gas to make and they get beat pretty easily by hydralisks which only take 75 gas to make. So you can see that going for mutalisks in this type of game is often a death wish for a Zerg player.
Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. Starcraft 2 - Mastering the Art of Zergling Harassment
As a Zerg player we have the ability and need to harass our opponent. We must use this every chance we get. The main advantage with Zerg is our quick expansions; our weakness is that we do not tech as well as Terran or Protoss. So to win in the top levels against good diamond players we must out produce them. We can't compete with units like the colossus or thor unless we simply overwhelm them with hydralisks or roaches. We could use investors but they can be taken down pretty easily so they need a lot of backup. Harassment is a major way for us to keep our enemy from expanding.
The best way to harass is by using speed upgraded zerglings and maybe a few banelings as well. I generally build up an army of zerglings while I wait for the speed upgrade and then send them to harass while I expand. This way I keep them on the defense while at the same time expanding.
The best thing to do is take your zerglings and run right by their army to the workers. Kill as many workers as you can and then try to run back out without losing too many zerglings, you should focus on crippling their economy and not worry about hurting his army. You can do this fairly easily because the speed upgrade makes your zerglings much faster then anything they have.
While you are doing this harassment you should build up your second base and move into making hydralisks. Continue using the zerglings to keep your opponent on the defense until you have a good-sized hydralisk army. You should be able to win the game with the hydralisk attack but in case you can't then you should focus on keeping your opponent from expanding and then you can just starve him out.

Starcraft 2 - Guide For Mastering the Zerg's Baneling
Banelings are a must for a Zerg player, if you aren't using banelings then you are missing out on a major part of the Zerg attack. They are excellent for taking down groups of marines and marauders if you playing against Terran. If you playing against Protoss they are great against zealots. Banelings are also perfect for destroying builds or breaking through defensive walls like the supply depots the Terran players love to block off their base with. They are also very useful for killing off most of your opponent's workers in a single attack. So why aren't more Zerg players using them? I don't know but I'm going to explain how to use them effectively.
When going with an early baneling attack I always use zerglings with the speed upgrade from the spawning pool, also if you can, upgrade the baneling's speed as well. If you are playing against Terran they will must likely wall off their base, which is ok because you can use a few banelings to break though a supply depot without much trouble. Once you are through just use your zerglings to keep their army busy while you send your banelings straight for the SUVs. One good hit and you should take most of them out, you will lose your zergling army but that is ok because you basically halted his economy and while he is rebuilding his SUVs you are building up your zergling/baneling army for the game ending attack.
Of course this same type of attack can be used against Protoss players as well just go for the drones with your banelings while your zerglings keep the zealots and stalkers busy. You can also choose to just send your banelings after their army as well if for some reason you can't get to the workers. Make sure you target either the zealots or if you are playing Terran the marines and marauders, also try to hit a group of them and not just 1 or 2 standing off on their own.

Starcraft 2 - Effectively Using Creep
The Zerg's creep is one of the most underrated parts of the Zerg game. And yet it creates a huge advantage for the Zerg player that can't be overlooked, especially in the higher-level diamond ladders. Creep gives the Zerg player the following advantages. First, it gives a 30% movement bonus to the Zerg's units. Second, it will stop your opponent from expanding by not being able to build on the creep. Third, you can use the creep to build your spore and spine crawlers anywhere you want. Forth, you will have vision wherever you have creep so you will have a much better idea of what your opponent is doing because you can see most of the map.
So lets talk about the ways to spread creep, if you have ever watched a replay of a high level Zerg player you may have noticed that by the end of the game most of the map is covered in creep. How does he do this while of the same type keeping up with everything else he has to do during the game? Well Starcraft 2 makes it easy for us to spread creep by using our overlords. You first must upgrade to a Lair and then every overlord has the ability to spread creep. You can then turn it on so the overlords will spread creep automatically whenever they come to a stop somewhere. This makes it very easy for us to spread creep and the best part is that it is free.
I tend to send the overlords to the empty bases and wait for my opponent to try expanding. When they come to the empty base they may be able to kill the overlord but the creep will still stay on the ground for 30 seconds or so and they will have to just wait until it is gone to build.

Starcraft 2 - Zerg's Nydus Network Guide
In this guide I will show you how to effectively use the Zerg's nydus network. The nydus network is not being used very much on battlenet right now and the main reason is because most Zerg players don't really know how to use it. The nydus network is an attack tool but I recommend using it to harass our opponent and not for a full out attack. It only costs 150 minerals and is quick to build. The key to deploying the network is the overlord's ability to generate creep.
In short you will get a group of speed upgraded zerglings and/or banelings and then send an overlord to drop some creep in the enemy's base. Make sure you do it in a spot where they can't see you. As soon as the creep is down build the worm and send all your zerglings and banelings through. Go straight for the workers and ignore any attack units they have. You will end up losing all your zerglings and banelings but just take out as many workers as you can. The point of this attack is to cripple the economy of your opponent so that you will be able to overwhelm him with hydralisks and roaches while he is trying to build his workers back up.
A few things to watch out for, first, make sure the enemy doesn't see you as they can attack the worm and kill it before you get any units through. Second, don't use this strategy if he has his whole army sitting in his base or has a lot of base defense such as cannons or bunkers. Third, I would not recommend using this against Zerg players as it would be just as easy and cheaper to run the zerglings right in the front door of the base. That's about it, have fun!

Starcraft 2 Zerg Guide - How to Stop the Cannon Rush
We've all been there, staring out the game and just trying to get our build order going correctly but then we realize all too late that the Protoss player has cannons inside our base and his building them closer and closer to our main. What should we do to avoid the inevitable? This guide will show you how to easily beat a Protoss cannon rush but it would also apply to a bunker rush from a Terran player.
The first thing that you need to do is build a few spine crawlers around your base to keep the cannons from getting any closer. After that you should focus on getting the cannons killers...banelings! Build a baneling nest and start pumping out zerglings to turn into banelings. After you have a bunch send them at either the cannons or the pylons if you think you can get them all. The cannons you fall pretty fast to a few banelings so it won't take too much minerals. Make sure you are alert to a possible void ray attack or some other cheese attack like that because the Protoss players like to distract you by building some cannons while they tech up to void rays.
The best thing to do is after you have the cannons under control send all your zerglings and banelings at their main base. They will most likely have a few cannons gaurding the front but you should be able to handle that with your banelings. Go straight in, ignore his army and take out the probes, if he is making void rays try to halt them by taking out the pylons for the stargates. After this you pretty much have the game won, just build up some roaches and send them to finish off the foolish Protoss player, nice job!

Starcraft 2 Zerg Vs Protoss - Beating Immortals
One of the favorite units of a Protoss player is the immortal. Most Zerg players are cluelesss about how to take these guys down since they do such huge damage. The immortal has a few unique things about it that we need to talk about so we can understand how to beat it. First, the immortal has a special shield that will only let it take 10 damage per hit and anything over 10 damage is deflected. What does this mean to us? We can't use high damge units to fight an immortal. Second, the immortal does huge bonus damage to armored units so we must not send out armored units to fight it either.
Not understanding these things about the immortal has caused most Zerg players to just make a bunch of roaches and send them to their dealth against the immortal. Little do these Zerg players know that the roach is the worst possible unit to go up against the immortal because the roaches damage will be capped at 10 and the roach is armored so it will take massive hits from the immortals. So now that we know not to use roaches, what should we use? I would recommend staying away from hydralisks as well because some of the hydralisks damge will be deflected. Instead go back to the basics, speed upgraded zerglings are the perfect unit for crushing the immortals. Starcraft 2 has a funny way of bringing back the starting units and making them useful again later in the game and this is an example of that.
So when you see immortals coming toward you, pop out some zerglings and you should have no trouble handling them, plus if the Protoss player uses zealots to back up the immortals you get a double bonus because zerglings also do very well against zealots.

Starcraft 2 - Zerg Infestor Guide
If used right the infestor can be the Zerg's most powerful unit. Of course most Zerg players have no idea how to correctly use the infestor so they just don't make any. Infestors are the Zerg's perfect weapon for taking down big unit such as the thor or the colossus but they are also very effective at destroying groups of small units such as marines or zealots.
The infestor has two abilities that I want to focus on. The first is the neural parasite ability, which allows you to take control of an opponent's unit for a few seconds. This ability will completely annihilate a group of thors or tanks if you are playing against Terran and colossus and immortals if you are playing against Protoss. You will lose control of the unit in a few seconds but in most cases that is all the time you will need to destroy the enemy's army. The second ability is fungal growth and it is awesome against groups of small units, it will do 36 damage to an area of units, which will take a marine's health down to 4 with just one fungal growth. So as you can see the infestor is a huge weapon we have against Terran and Protoss.
However the Infestor can be very fragile and they die easy when under attack so you will need to protect them. I recommend using speed upgraded zerglings and hydralisks in case of an air attack. Make sure you keep the infestors at the back of your army and out of harms way but not to far back so they can use their abilities. It takes a little practice to use them correctly but when you have it down glory and power are sure to follow soon. Good luck and I hope to see you on battlenet soon!

Starcraft 2 Zerg Guide - How to Stop the Reaper Rush
Every time you play against Terran you must be ready for the dreaded reaper rush. The reaper rush is being used like crazy on battlenet right and for good reason because most Zerg players have no idea how to defend against it. This guide will show you how to beat a reaper rush without any trouble.
The worst thing you can do is build some spine crawlers as the Terran player will just have his reapers run just out of range and pick off your drones and buildings. The key to beating a reaper rush is the speed upgrade for zerglings. The first thing you should do when you get 100 gas is start the speed upgrade at the spawning pool and then pump out a few zerglings. The reapers will come just in time to get run over by your speed upgraded zerglings. Make sure you chase the reapers until you kill them all as you will be faster and able to run them all down. You can also go straight to roaches but they are not as effective because they are slower then zerglings and roaches are very bad against marauders so that will not be good for you as the game progresses.
I would also recommend getting anti air as soon as you can because many Terran players like you harass you with reapers while they are teching to banshees and will attack your workers as soon as they get one. Get a few corruptors and stay away from mutalisks as marines make short work of a group of mutalisks. Take your corruptors and scout the Terran base to see if he is getting air or going ground. If you use these tactics you will no longer have to fear the dreaded reaper rush but instead invite it.

Starcraft 2 Zerg Guide - How to Stop the Zealot Rush
Every time you play against Protoss you must be ready for the dreaded zealot rush. The zealot rush is being used like crazy on battlenet right and for good reason because most Zerg players have no idea how to defend against it. This guide will show you how to beat a zealot rush without any trouble.
The worst thing you can do is build some spine crawlers as the Protoss player will just run right by them and kill as many drones as he can. The key to beating a zealot rush is a lot of roaches. The first thing you should do after you build the spawning pool is build a roach warren and start pumping out roaches. The zealots will come just in time to get run over by your roach army. Make sure you chase the zealots until you kill them all as you will be faster and able to run them all down. Roaches are a good unit to use when playing against protoss because they do high damage and they are very cheap. However, they do very poorly against immortals because they are armored and the immortal does huge bonus damage against armored units. So if you see the Protoss player making immortals start pumping out some zerglings to handle them.
I would also recommend getting anti air as soon as you can because many Protoss players like you harass you with zealots while they are teching to void rays and will attack your base as soon as they get a few. Starcraft 2 - Zerg Roach Rush
So you want to win the game in the first 8 minutes? Well I would suggest a roach rush but you must know a few things first. This guide will show you how and when to rush with roaches and when you stay away from making roaches.
The roach rush can be very powerful and effective if used right but it can also cost you the game if you use it wrong. Right the bat lets talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the roach unit, the roach does very high damage and is also a armored unit, so what does that mean? It means the roach will do very poorly against a marauder because the marauder does extra damage to armored units. The immortal also does extra damage to armored units so the roach is very weak against it as well. The roach is very strong against a zealot, stalker, or marine. So as you can see I wouldn't normally recommend doing a roach rush against a Terran player simply because the marauders will rip you apart. However, I would use a roach rush against a Protoss player who will not have immortals by the time you hit him.
I would normally skip right over zerglings and build a roach warren as soon as the spawning pool is done. Only make one extractor because you will not need a ton of gas. After the roach warren is done just start pumping roaches and when you get about 15 or 20 of them and send them all at your opponent. You must either win the game with the rush or takeout most of the workers, if you are unable to do either of these then you will most likely lose the game due to crippling your economy in order to get the roaches so fast.

Starcraft 2 Zerg Vs Terran - Beating Marines and Marauders
We Zerg players hate going up against a good Terran player who uses marines, marauders, and medivacs. Our army of roaches and hydralisks get ripped apart by the marauders getting constantly healing by the medivacs. So how do we defeat this seemingly unstoppable force? This guide will show you how to take out the famed marine, marauder, medivac army that most Terran players are using on battlenet right now.
The key to winning this type of game is going back to the basics and by basics I mean the basic unit, zerglings and their cousins the baneling. Banelings will make very short work of marines and marauders and the speed zerglings will get upclose and personal with the marauders who like to stay at range. When you start a game against Terran I would recommed going striaght to speed zerglings and not even mess with going for roaches or hydralisks yet. This way you will be ready with your speed zerglings in case the Terran player decides to use a few reapers to harass you. After the reaper rush fails the Terran player will swtich over to his main army and you will start building some banelings. When you meet his army send your banelings after the biggest group of marines or marauders standing together, this way you can take as many out as you can with your banelings. Then just use your zerglings to clean up the rest. It takes a little practice but after you get the hang of it the Terran's army will fall everytime. The only thing you need to watchout for is if the Terran player techs to banshees. If you see this coming upgrade your base as fast as you can and make hydralisks and corrupters to counter. You should have no trouble taking on a good Terran player using these tactics.
