Starcraft 2 - Guide For Mastering the Zerg's Baneling

Banelings are a must for a Zerg player, if you aren't using banelings then you are missing out on a major part of the Zerg attack. They are excellent for taking down groups of marines and marauders if you playing against Terran. If you playing against Protoss they are great against zealots. Banelings are also perfect for destroying builds or breaking through defensive walls like the supply depots the Terran players love to block off their base with. They are also very useful for killing off most of your opponent's workers in a single attack. So why aren't more Zerg players using them? I don't know but I'm going to explain how to use them effectively.

When going with an early baneling attack I always use zerglings with the speed upgrade from the spawning pool, also if you can, upgrade the baneling's speed as well. If you are playing against Terran they will must likely wall off their base, which is ok because you can use a few banelings to break though a supply depot without much trouble. Once you are through just use your zerglings to keep their army busy while you send your banelings straight for the SUVs. One good hit and you should take most of them out, you will lose your zergling army but that is ok because you basically halted his economy and while he is rebuilding his SUVs you are building up your zergling/baneling army for the game ending attack.

Of course this same type of attack can be used against Protoss players as well just go for the drones with your banelings while your zerglings keep the zealots and stalkers busy. You can also choose to just send your banelings after their army as well if for some reason you can't get to the workers. Make sure you target either the zealots or if you are playing Terran the marines and marauders, also try to hit a group of them and not just 1 or 2 standing off on their own.

Starcraft 2 - Zerg's Nydus Network Guide

In this guide I will show you how to effectively use the Zerg's nydus network. The nydus network is not being used very much on battlenet right now and the main reason is because most Zerg players don't really know how to use it. The nydus network is an attack tool but I recommend using it to harass our opponent and not for a full out attack. It only costs 150 minerals and is quick to build. The key to deploying the network is the overlord's ability to generate creep.

In short you will get a group of speed upgraded zerglings and/or banelings and then send an overlord to drop some creep in the enemy's base. Make sure you do it in a spot where they can't see you. As soon as the creep is down build the worm and send all your zerglings and banelings through. Go straight for the workers and ignore any attack units they have. You will end up losing all your zerglings and banelings but just take out as many workers as you can. The point of this attack is to cripple the economy of your opponent so that you will be able to overwhelm him with hydralisks and roaches while he is trying to build his workers back up.

A few things to watch out for, first, make sure the enemy doesn't see you as they can attack the worm and kill it before you get any units through. Second, don't use this strategy if he has his whole army sitting in his base or has a lot of base defense such as cannons or bunkers. Third, I would not recommend using this against Zerg players as it would be just as easy and cheaper to run the zerglings right in the front door of the base. That's about it, have fun!

Starcraft 2 - Zerg's Best Counter Units

So what are Zerg's the best units for taking out marines or marauders, how about stalkers or zealots or even the immortal. This guide will show you which Zerg units to build in order to counter anything that your opponent can throw at you.

Playing against Terran: When playing against a good Terran player you must be ready to change which unit you are using at a second's notice. The key to beating a good Terran player is having the right units at the right time. Below I have included the main units that a Terran player will use and which Zerg unit is the best to taking it out.

Marines and Marauders - build speed upgraded zerglings and banelings
Tanks and Thors - Why just build some infestors of course and turn those tanks back on the Terran player
Banshees and Vikings - Build hydralisks and corruptors and you will not have any trouble controlling the air

Playing against Protoss: When playing against a Protoss player it is important to see the colossus coming and be ready when it shows up. The colossus can wreak havoc on a Zerg player if he is not ready. Below I have included the main units that a Protoss player will use and which Zerg unit is the best to taking it out.

Zealots and Stalkers - Again just build speed upgraded zerglings and banelings, roaches and hydralisks will also do the trick
Immortals - The key to beating an immortal is without question a speed upgraded zergling attack
Colossus - Either get infestors or corruptors but do not attack this unit with zerglings roaches or hydralisks, as the colossus will make short work of them

The hydralisk and infestor combo is being used more and more on battlenet right now because of the power of these two combined units. This strategy should not be overlooked for a less effective army such as roaches and hydralisks. This guide will show you why to consider using this combo and how use it the right way.

The infestor and hydralisk combo is very effective against an army of small units such as marines and marauders or zealots and stalkers. The infestor can use fungal growth to weaken the units and the hydralisks will finish them off quickly with their ranged attacks. This combo is also perfect for taking on larger units such as thors and tanks or colossus and immortals. The infestor can use neural parasite to take control of the large units and turn them against the enemy while the hydralisks will provide protection for the infestors. This combo is also good against an air attack because of the hydralisk's ability to hit air. However, it will not be able to take on a larger air attack such as mass carriers so make sure you keep an eye out for that and get some corruptors if you see it coming.

You must upgrade to a lair pretty early on so you well be able to build both the infestors and hydralisks. You will need to delay your first expansion until you have the lair upgrade started and build zerglings for protection while you wait. You will be a little weak early on in the game but you will catch up fast when you start pumping out the infestors and hydras. It will take some practice to be able to use the infestors perfectly in the battles but after you have it down there will be few opponents that will be able to put up a real fight.
