Zerg Guide - Early Expansion Strategy

Comments (0)

As a Zerg player we need to realize that our strength is in out gathering and out producing our opponents. We have a hard time keeping up with the higher tech units of Terran and Protoss. So to counter this we need expand faster and more often then our enemy while at the same time keeping them from expanding. This guide will teach you the basics of the Zerg early expansion strategy.

There is a trade off with the early expansion because instead of upgrading to a lair we must use those minerals to build the new hatchery. This will leave us very open to an air attack since we will basically have nothing to attack air. So we need to keep the enemy busy so he will not be able to tech and will also be focused on playing defense and not attack our base. Use zerglings to harass the enemy and keep them busy while at the same time building up your second base.

As soon as you have upgraded to a lair you should have 2 bases up and running while our opponent will only have one. At this point you need to get hydralisks so you have some anti air. Use your army to keep him from expanding and just wait him out. When he starts to run out of minerals he will have no choice but to attack you. At that point it should be no trouble winning the battle, which will effectively end the game.

Becoming an advanced Starcraft 2 player is very challenging and confusing. I purchased the Starcraft 2 Advanced Strategy Guide from Star2Pros.com and I have been very impressed with the strategies they teach. I would highly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to get to the top of the Diamond Ladders, I think this guide might be the only one of its kind.

Anyways, good luck to all of you and I hope to see you on BattleNet!

Zerg Vs Protoss - Winning Against Sentries

Comments (0)

When playing a Zerg vs Protoss game the sentries can spell disaster for us and our zergling army. Sentries are being used more and more online right now because of their ability to create walls around our zerglings and kill them without taking any damage. This guide will instruct you on how to deal with a Protoss player who is using mass sentries.

First off as soon as you realize that your opponent is going sentries you should stop making zerglings and fast tech to a lair and get hydralisks as your main attack unit. The reason we skip over roaches is because they are an armored unit and stalkers do extra damage to armored so they kill roaches pretty quickly but you need a ranged attack so you can hit the sentries even while behind the force fields they create. Also stay away from making mutalisks, as the sentries will take them out quickly as will the stalkers.

When you get some hydralisks attack the sentries, the trick is not getting your army in a small area that can be walled off. A good Protoss player will switch to colossus when they see your hydralisks so be sure you can pump out a few infestors if you need to, as they are the perfect counter for colossus. I would not recommend trying to attack the main Protoss base as they will wall it off and pick off your hydralisks. Instead just make sure you expand and keep them from expanding, this way you can starve them out.

Zerg Guide - Using Roaches Effectively

Comments (0)

The roach can be a very powerful unit if used right but it can also be a very poor choice against certain units. A good Zerg player must know when to use roaches and when to stay away from them. This guide will show you how to correctly use the roach when playing against Terran and Protoss.

The roach has a few unique things about it that we need to talk about. The first thing you need to know is that the roach is an armored unit unlike the hydralisk or zergling. Also the roach does very high damage but its attack speed is slow. This is important because the Terran marauders and the Protoss stalkers both do extra damage to armored units. So this means if you see either marauders or stalkers then stay away from making the roach and tech to the hydralisk instead, roaches also do very poorly against an immortal.

However, if you don't see any of the previous units in play then the mass roach army can be a very good early attack. In most cases you can win the game very early with a mass roach attack. The reason this is so effective is because you don't need very much gas to make roaches so you can pump them out much faster then hydralisks. Also with the speed upgrade they can move pretty quickly and can be used to do "hit and runs". Use this strategy to win any game where you don't see a marauder or stalker.

Zerg Vs Terran - The Starving Strategy

Comments (0)

I don't know about you but I hate playing against a good Terran player, the Zerg vs Terran matchup is a very difficult game to win. This guide will teach you the basics of beating a Terran player.

The reason Terran seems to rip us apart is because of their ability to tech up to units like the thor and medivac. There are only 2 ways that we can beat a good Terran player. The first is harassing with zerglings and banelings but this can be difficult to master. The second is the fast expand and starve strategy which we are going to discuss here.

Our strength is the cheap cost of expanding and we need to use this to our advantage. Start off the game by getting a few zerglings and expand as soon as you have the minerals. Use your zerglings to harass the Terran player and keep them playing defense, also do not let them expand. Midway through the game you should have two bases up and running while he still has one. Switch to hydralisks and continue to just wait him out. When his minerals start running out he will have to try and expand so he will attack you. You shouldn't have any trouble winning the battle with all your hydralisks. After that the game is pretty much over since he will not have any income. When you master this strategy you will be able to beat even a very good Terran player without much trouble.

Zerg Vs Protoss - Winning by Starving Strategy

Comments (0)

It can be a real challenge to win a Zerg vs Protoss game because of the Protoss ability to make the perfect counter units to whatever we might throw at them. If we make zerglings they make zealots and colossus. If we make roaches they make the perfect counter which is immortals. If we make hydralisks they make stalkers and colossus. Whatever we do they have the perfect counter right at their fingertips. So how do we win against Protoss? We win be simply out-producing and out-gathering them. This guide will show you how to beat a good Protoss player by using a starve strategy.

The key to this is expanding early and keeping the Protoss player from expanding. Start off the game and make a few zerglings to harass the Protoss player and keep him busy so he can't expand. Instead of upgrading to a lair use the minerals to expand. By delaying the lair upgrade you will not be able to defend against an air attack so make sure you check the Protoss base to see if he is going for a void rush. After the expansion is up and running switch to hydralisks and get an army together. I would also build a few corruptors as they are very good against colossus and void rays. Keep the Protoss player from expanding and just wait him out, don't attack his main base. After a while he will run out of minerals and have no other option but to attack you. You should have no problems beating him at this point because you are running with two bases while he only has one.

The Perfect Zerg Build Order

Comments (0)

So the title is a little confusing because any good Starcraft 2 player knows that there is no one perfect build order but just perfect build orders for different situations. That being said there is a base build order that every Zerg player must start with and then change it depending on the type of game you are playing. This guide will teach you the base build order for Zerg that you must always start off with.

First off lets talk about some common mistakes that Zerg players make with their build orders. We all know that our weakness is anti air so it is a really good idea to upgrade to a lair as soon as we can and get some anti air going. Also I would recommend just skipping roaches as they are hardly used on bnet right now for good reason.

Build order:

Start off by just making drones until you get 9 and then build an overlord. When the overlord finishes build 4 more drones and then start a spawning pool. While the spawning pool is building make one extractor, put 3 drones on it and continue to make drones. When the spawning pool finishes start a queen and make 3 more drones until you hit 18 supply, build another overlord and then what you do from here is totally up to you. I normally pump out a handful of zerglings to go scout or harass while I upgrade to a lair for hydralisks. I also try to expand when I have around 27 or supply.

Zerg Vs Terran - Infestor Domination Strategy

Comments (0)

The Zerg investor is an incredibly powerful unit to use when playing a Zerg vs Terran game. The reason for this is simple, the infestor is great against groups of bio units such as marines and marauders and the infestor is unstoppable against large ground units such as the mighty thor and tank. This guide will instruct you on how to use the infestor correctly and when you should not use them at all when playing against Terran.

The key to winning this game is scouting so you know what the Terran player is up to. You can use your overlord to fly over the Terran base and see what he is making. His marines will most likely kill your overlord but it is a worthy trade for knowledge.

If the Terran player is making marines and marauders with medivacs then you should use an infestor and zergling combo. Use the zerglings to keep his marines and marauders busy while your infestors use fungal growth on them. Fungal growth will do 36 damage to his whole army and your zerglings should not have much trouble cleaning up the rest. If the Terran player goes with thors or tanks then have your zerglings keep them busy while you get your infestors close enough to use neural parasite on them. This will give you control of his units for a short time and after this its game over. Just use your zerglings to finish off any units he has left. So as you can see infestors are the perfect unit for winning a Zerg vs Terran game.
